We're due a GLORIOUS bank holiday. High 20s across the UK...maybe even higher for those of you in Costa del Brighton.
No rain in the forecast. Your lawn's going to need water. But how much?
"Give it a good soak" means different things to different people.
Here's the rule: your lawn needs roughly 30mm of water per week.
If you've got a sprinkler, you can find out exactly how long that takes in 4 simple steps:
Step 1: Grab an empty tuna tin
Roughly 30mm tall, flat-bottomed.
Step 2: Place it on the lawn
Stick it in the middle of where your sprinkler reaches. Not the edge.
Step 3: Turn the sprinkler on and time it
When the water hits the top of the tin, stop the clock.
Step 4: Use that number once a week
That's your weekly watering time, sorted for the rest of summer. Early morning is best. Midday is worst.
No sprinkler? A hose will do fine, you'll just need to go by feel. Water until the soil's properly damp a few inches down, not just wet on top.
As promised, lawn tips in under a minute.

The lawn plan has done wonders for my lawns, they’ve never been so green and lush, definitely worth the yearly subscription
Daughter bought her first house in June and inherited a back garden which had been neglected for some months After moving in I was tasked with getting the garden into shape. I put in a lot of time in preparing for a decent lawn. After levelling, seeding and top dressing then came the hose pipe ban. As a new lawn she has a dispensation to use a hose. To be honest the excessively high temperatures made the whole task soul destroying. Eventually rain was forecast and I gambled on putting her lawn treatment down. The results were nothing short of a miracle. Now cutting twice a week and I have a very happy daughter.
