Minute Meltdown: Heatwave Survival Guide Part 1: Watering

Heatwave's here! Your lawn's about to suffer (nice, happy start to an email).

Over the next 3 days I'm sending one Minute "MELTDOWN" email each day. Three quickfire hacks to keep your lawn alive while everyone else's looks worse than a Croatian defence.

Today: watering.

Most people either don't water their lawns at all or treat their lawn like a pot plant. A light sprinkle. Job done.

It's the worst thing you can do.

Here's what to do instead:

Next week, give your lawn a BIG soak
20-30 minutes per area (long enough to soak 4-6 inches down)
Before 8am or after 8pm — anything between that and you lose half to evaporation

Remember...

Shallow + regular watering = trains roots to stay near the surface, where the soil dries out fastest = rubbish lawn.

Deep + infrequent watering = the roots grow downwards in search of moisture - exactly where you want them = great lawn.

The only exception to this rule is if you're seeding...then stick to regular watering as shown in the guide. Once your lawn is established, follow the above.

As promised, lawn tips in under a minute.
