Yesterday I told you how to water properly.
Today's hack will make or break your lawn for the rest of the year: mowing height
Grass is solar powered. The more leaf on show, the more energy it can absorb from the sun, the more water stored, the healthier the plant, the deeper the roots.
When over 25 degrees, grass enters a state of dormency. Which means it'll stop growing to conserve energy and sometimes turn a bit brown.
If you cut your lawn short, not only will it absorb LESS energy from the sun, but it'll be too hot to grow itself out of trouble.
It'll then stay short for days/weeks, without shade and bake in the sun.
Whatever height you're cutting at, go up a notch.
Long enough to shade the soil and hold moisture. Short enough to still look tidy.
The lawns that survive August are the ones cut at 40mm. Not 20mm.
As promised, lawn tips in under a minute.

The lawn plan has done wonders for my lawns, they’ve never been so green and lush, definitely worth the yearly subscription
Daughter bought her first house in June and inherited a back garden which had been neglected for some months After moving in I was tasked with getting the garden into shape. I put in a lot of time in preparing for a decent lawn. After levelling, seeding and top dressing then came the hose pipe ban. As a new lawn she has a dispensation to use a hose. To be honest the excessively high temperatures made the whole task soul destroying. Eventually rain was forecast and I gambled on putting her lawn treatment down. The results were nothing short of a miracle. Now cutting twice a week and I have a very happy daughter.
